Dad's handcrafted birdhouse.

 A Tribute to my Dad

During my years of being open, on our farm many of you might remember my Dad as the birdhouse maker. He made and sold countless bird houses in my shop and greenhouse along with his barn-wood benches. He was a very talented craftsman. Many of you might also remember him parking cars especially during big events like the Fall and Christmas Open Houses, also during our Spring re-openings.

His calm, warm and kind demeanor was hard to miss.

I know for a lot of us, these past two years have been difficult. On a personal note, especially so. My beloved dad a.k.a. “Pops” went to be with the Lord this past April of 2021. It was very unexpected. In fact, he had just received a good report from the doctors and things were looking good. Jokingly, on April 1st my dad got me one more time, he and I always had this thing, with trying to trick each other on April Fools’ Day.  The next morning, he had passed away (reminds me of Psalm 90:12-the brevity of life).

I was very close to my Dad. The grief has been hard for me. I’m grateful for my faith in Jesus Christ especially at this time (1Thessalonians 4:13).

I am also grateful for my GriefShare class and all the wonderful caring administrators of that program. It is offered at Saint Peter Lutheran Church in Richmond, Michigan. They helped me understand the stages of grief with a biblical view. I would highly recommend this program for anyone dealing with the loss of a loved one. The program is offered throughout the United States. Look up GriefShare.org to find a location near you.

My Dad always encouraged me throughout my life. He encouraged me to inquire about the 20 acres across the road when it went up for sale when I was only 21 years old. (which later became my home & farm). He was also the first one to buy my first handcrafted sweet annie wreath for my Mom. He encouraged me to follow my heart.  His Godly influence and steadfast faith has made a lasting impact on me and for that I am eternally grateful.

Miss you “Pops” and love you with all my heart, until we meet again.
